Thurman’s duties include assisting student-athletes with developing a educational plan, monitoring their academic progress and helping them reach their academic goals along with an AA degree to take with them.

Prior to becoming the Athletic Counselor at Los Angeles Southwest College, Thurman worked as a Psychology instructor at Los Angeles City College for two years. Thurman came to Southwest College and worked in the Trio Scholars Program as an adjunct counselor.

Thurman graduated from St. Mary’s College of California in 1992 where he played basketball there, and earning his bachelor’s degree in physical education. Also, Thurman earned his master’s in science degree in

Psychology with a minor Addiction Counseling in 2012. It is also worth mentioning that Thurman won the high school basketball state championship in 1988.

In his spare time, Thurman enjoys playing basketball on the weekends, going to sporting events, and relaxing at home with family and friends.
