Bio
Tomahawk Maddox’s football journey began in Southern California, where he quickly emerged as a dynamic and powerful running back. His early development took shape at Moorpark High School, where he earned the starting running back position during his junior year under the leadership of Coach Rob Dearborn and Coach Jim Clausen. His performance on the field immediately set him apart, showcasing a rare blend of strength, agility, and vision.
After relocating to Los Angeles, Maddox transferred to Fairfax High School, where he continued his playing career under Coach Terrel Ray. As the starting running back, Maddox began to fully embrace his potential. The support of coaches, including Head Coach Marguet Miller, fueled his confidence and sharpened his skills, laying the groundwork for a successful collegiate future.
That future began to take shape at Pasadena City College, where Tomahawk joined the Lancers under the legendary Coach Chuck Lyons and Pasadena champion Coach Tom Maher. Their leadership, discipline, and championship experience played a pivotal role in Maddox’s development both on and off the field. Over two seasons, he lettered both years and led the team in rushing. During his sophomore campaign, Maddox dominated the Mission Conference, earning recognition as the conference rushing leader for three consecutive weeks. His consistent performance and leadership caught the attention of Division I recruiters across the country.
His determination paid off when he received a scholarship to Weber State University, joining the Wildcats for the 1998 season. At Weber, Maddox continued to deliver, scoring several touchdowns throughout the season, including a memorable 11-yard touchdown reception against Montana State from quarterback Chris Wallace. His tough, downhill running style and dependable hands made him a versatile threat and a respected competitor in the Big Sky Conference.
Maddox’s passion for the game continued long after his playing days ended. In 2023, two of his most respected mentors—Coach Paul Knox and Coach Arthur Johnson—handed him the torch to become the head coach of the Washington Preparatory High School football team. With strong leadership and a belief in his players, Maddox guided the Generals to an undefeated 8-0 passing league season, defeating programs such as Canoga Park, Santee, Cleveland, Hollywood, Jefferson, Firebaugh, and Chatsworth.
That impressive run led the Washington Prep Generals to their first championship appearance in 35 years, facing off against Jordan High School Bulldogs. Though they came up just short, the season became one of the most inspiring and talked-about in school history. More importantly, Maddox instilled life lessons, discipline, and belief in his players—values they will carry into adulthood.
Maddox currently serves as an assistant football coach at Southwest College, continuing his mission to uplift and mentor the next generation of student-athletes. Known for his ability to connect with players and hold them to a high standard, he has become a key figure in developing raw talent into polished student-athletes.
Off the field, Maddox is just as dedicated to service. He volunteers regularly at a local park, where he feeds, mentors, and teaches children the fundamentals of football alongside one of his most influential mentors, Ms. Pamala Adams. Through this work, he continues to give back to the community that raised him—making a lasting impact on the lives of the “little ones” who look up to him as both a coach and a role model.
