LASC Honored With South Coast-South Division Awards
Los Angeles Southwest College men's basketball Head Coach Mack Cleveland and several Cougars were honored by the South Coast-South Division in late February.
Capping a stellar 2021-22 season, the Los Angeles Southwest College men's basketball team was recognized with several South Coast-South Division honors, including Most Valuable Player and Coach of the Year.
Brandon Fredrick was named South Coast-South Division Most Valuable Player. The sophomore guard led the conference in scoring averaging 25.7 points a game, three pointers with 133 and steals with 2.5 a game. He also grabbed 4.4 rebounds and passed for 3.2 assists a game and shot 78.3 from the line.
LASC's Head Coach Mack Cleveland was named South Coast-South Division Coach of the Year. The Cougars were tri-champs of the division and finished with a record of 19-9 by scoring an average of 93 points a game.
Freshman Antoine Bloxton earned South Coast-South Division First Team Honors. Bloxton scored 16.5 points, grabbed 5.8 rebounds and passed for 3.8 assists per game. He had the seventh highest points per game average in the conference.
Damerius Wash also earned South Coast-South Division First Team Honors. The sophomore, who played guard and forward, averaged 13.2 points per game and led the conference by grabbing 9.4 rebounds a game.
Sophomore Richard McMichael received South Coast-South Division Honorable Mentions. The guard averaged 13.4 points a game. He shot 79 percent from the free throw line and 49 percent from the field.
Sophomore Karl Jones received South Coast-South Division Honorable Mentions. Jones grabbed 8 rebounds a game, which placed him fourth in the conference. He also averaged 9.7 points a game by shooting 63 percent from the field. His field goal percentage was third in the conference
Sophomore Cavin Paige also received South Coast-South Division Honorable Mentions. He averaged 14.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game.
The men's basketball team captured a share of the 2021-22 South Coast-South Division title as LASC, Cerritos College and Long Beach City College all finished the regular season with a 7-3 record in division play.
